Talk – Bright Spots: Exploring pathways towards a better Anthropocene
Elena Bennett, co-chair of the Scientific Steering Committee of ecoSERVICES, is giving a talk at the 16th season of the Food for Thought lecture series of McGill University. She will explore ‘bright spots’ – these real places and projects that demonstrate one or more elements of a positive future.
Food for Thought brings timely science topics to the community: neighbours, alumni, students, staff and faculty. The talks, organised by the Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences of McGill University, take place every other Tuesday in the fall for a stimulating 90 minute presentation/discussion of issues related to how we humans are creating a new age of earth time, i.e. the ‘Anthropocene’. An outstanding gallery of experts is giving talks during this 16th season.
Elena will encourage discussions about the the kinds of futures people would like to create and how ‘bright spots’ might lead to a better Anthropocene. She will encourage thinking on how these futures must move beyond efforts focused on avoiding negative futures or taking incremental steps forward. She will also promote awareness of Future Earth and its objectives.
This talk is related to the Bright Spots: Seeds of a Good Anthropocene co-led by ecoSERVICES and PECS.
